Joshua Purnell was born September 6th, 1991, in Norfolk, Va. He was raised by his single father to whom he gives credit for sparking a love of music in him. Growing up, his father's Motown Records would echo through the halls. Although he was singing and writing from a young age, he did not actually start pursuing a career in music until much later in his life.

Joshua started dancing blues years ago after being dragged out by a friend. As a singer, he wasn’t used to expressing himself through movement. In time, he discovered that in dance, feet can become drums, breath; violin, and his hands could gain a voice and sing! He fell in love.
In his mid twenties, Joshua decided to give in and pursue his passion for music. With the help of his uncles and aunts, he purchased his first guitar. Shortly after things started to click. Heartfelt songs about his life and relationships poured out of him.

Joshua later left his hometown to go visit his mother's side of the family in Columbus, Mississippi. While outside surrounded by the nature of the deep south, his guitar playing and song structure evolved. His guitar percussion



With the consistent performances and support from his new friends and fans, Joshua slowly matured into a musician. He began winning over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life; performing at a variety of venues, collaborating with local artists, all while writing and recording new music.
One fateful night, Joshua found his way into the Elbow Room-a small downtown bar that hosted a weekly open mic- and everything changed. He bashfully played a couple songs and, to his surprise, they were well received. As he continued to play there, every week, his name quickly spread around the small town.
