Law of Attraction

A week or so after I landed in Mississippi, I went to get a haircut. I sat down in the chair and the barber began politely interrogating me.
"you have an accent where are you from?"
"Virginia"
"What brought you down here"
"Family"
"What do you do?"
I paused and thought; I was somewhat stunned. In the past, I had always defined myself by my job.
"I work in a grocery store... " I work for capital one..." but at this moment I didn't have a job.
who was I? what do I do?
I finally replied "I do music. I'm a singer/songwriter"
From that day on, that became my default answer. To be honest, I didn't fully believe it at the time... or even the future times that I said it.
However, last night, I had my first paid gig. I entertained people for 2 hours, with the help of my friend Clara Ortega who opened for me and came back up later to do some duets and dope harmonies. People came out to hear me play! They actually want to hear my music. Not only that, but they know the words to some of my songs!
I'm not sure when it happened, but its working; I'm becoming a real musician.
Even the newspaper says so, so it must be true =P
sincerely,
Joshua Purnell
Singer/Songwriter
