Kids Say the Darndest Things

Its been weird since I moved back to Virginia. I had established myself as a musician in Mississippi and had a decent fan base. However, here its like I have to start all over again. I had been getting a bit depressed and feeling discouraged until today when I went to my favorite thinking spot.

I went and sat by the water to sing and play my guitar. I wasn't trying to draw any attention to myself; I was just enjoying the weather.

A man walked up and asked me to play a song for his wife as he handed me a couple bucks. I agreed and tried to decline the money. He insisted. I played and after I finished his family clapped.

About 2 hours later a lady walked up and said "let me hear what you got" I smiled and began playing. Afterwards she thanked me and said that was her birthday treat.

Another hour later a young girl stopped skateboarding and came at sat near me and listened. When I looked up at the end of the song, her and her friend were sitting there clapping. The father of one of the girls eventually came over and listened with them for a couple songs. At the end they showered me with encouragement and kind words before leaving to take some family pictures.

More people stopped by throughout the day and a little while later, the previous girl came back and said.

"you should really consider a career in music."

Words cannot convey how humbled I am by all the support, love, affirmation and kindness that I've been shown today.

Sincerely,

Joshua Purnell
